Hey
how are you
feelin?
No.
I mean, really, how are you feeling?
Are you having a good day?
Are things going your way?
Cool?
Or maybe things aren't so great.
Maybe your acting career isn't in the
place that you want it to be.
I get it.
I understand.
That's why I'm here
today.
We're diving into something that can
feel a little,
oh, I don't know, a little out there
for some, and absolutely
essential for others,
manifesting a success model for your
acting career.
Ok?
Whether you just rolled your eyes just
now,
the word manifestation
can kind of make you go, ok?
Or maybe some of you swear by it.
We're unpacking what it really means,
practically,
professionally
and personally,
to design a career path.
With intention.
I am going to share what works, what
doesn't and how to make it all your
own.
So if you've ever felt stuck,
scattered, or unsure of what to do next,
this episode might just speak to a new
kind of clarity.
I'm Jeffrey Dreisbach.
This is casting actor's cast.
Let's get into it.
Well, hello, and welcome to today's
episode of casting actor's cast.
I'm the casting director.
My name is Jeffrey Dreisbach
Casting with McCorkal casting in New
York City.
But guess what?
I'm also an author.
I'm a teacher.
I do workshops,
and,
you know, I'm a podcast host.
Thank you so much for tuning in.
This is that moment of the episode
where I can just say, thank you.
It's been a real pleasure bringing
these podcasts to you.
I think today's subject has some value.
Again, this might not be something that
you subscribe to.
And I have to also admit, this is
something that's relatively new for me
to spend some time on this particular
subject of manifestation.
And I am probably very, here's a good
word nascent,
with understanding
all of the implications
that this kind of philosophy has.
And so I am going to just try to
charge through.
I'm going to try and share some
thoughts about it.
And I would love to hear from you.
You can get hold of me, you can Dem me.
You can go to the website, casting
actors cast all one word.
Dot com.
There's a place that says, dive into
the talent pool.
And if you do that there's some free
bees for you, a book.
I'm doing voice over work.
There's also a video called casting
secrets.
What they don't tell you also on the
landing page of the website.
You're going to see a course that's
available.
My new book is out called bookdit.
There's just a lot going on.
But even more importantly, I think, is,
if you have an experience with this, I
would really love to hear from you.
And you can fill out that form, dive
into the talent pool.
And that gives me your email address.
But more importantly, it is a place for
you to let me know what's working for
you, or maybe, is there something I've
missed I haven't covered?
This is a great way that we can
continue the dialogue of these podcasts.
And I just, again, I'm so grateful that
you are here.
So let's talk about
for your acting career.
Why would you even want to consider it?
Well, I have a few answers for that.
The reason to consider it is that we
all know acting
is uncertain.
Acting can be competitive.
And also, I know this to be true.
Acting can feel often disempowering.
Manifesting
a success model offers focused and
personal energy.
I think
it also offers you
personal
agency.
You see, it's not just like wishful
thinking,
in my mind, it's really about conscious
strategic alignment with your goals.
So it's not some sort of woo woo into
the universe.
I'm going to project whatever it really
is.
Much more about taking a step by step
approach
and seeing how that aligns with where
you are emotional.
Because emotional resilience,
in my mind,
is key to longevity.
And manifesting supports mindset
development that combats
fear and can also combat rejection.
What we tell ourselves
is
really important.
It can be a very critical voice, or it
can be a voice that is optimistic,
or it is a voice that is just pure joy
and positivity.
Although I have to admit, I don't think
that that always lasts very long.
But I can tell you that vision LED
actors that I know, that I have worked
with, they tend to be much more
prepared,
what I call vision LED actors.
They seem to be more grounded
and more open to unexpected
opportunities.
And so that's why I'm using this
technique today to share with you, see
what you do
with this, and share that with me.
So here are some techniques for
manifesting a positive career path.
First of all, I think breaking down
these techniques with a practical application
is the
vital core of what I'm talking about.
So visualization
literally, is you projecting yourself
and what your dreams, your goals, your
thoughts, are about the future.
So if you have the correct intention,
it's not just about wishful thinking.
So it's not about just picturing the
destination.
For example,
seeing yourself as a series regular.
But also it's the process
of getting there.
So instead of just seeing yourself on a
television set
and saying, I accept all of the good
positive energy that's coming from me
being on a television set,
ok, that's a little weird, but you know
what I'm saying?
Think about
seeing yourself in script reads
on the first day of rehearsal.
How about seeing yourself in callbacks
for that television show?
About seeing yourself at the table
read, when you first read the script
with the other actors?
What I'm saying is that visualization
is really healthy.
But also, if you visualize it,
and then you rehearse and prepare
that, my friends, is a confidence
boost.
And we can all do with a confidence
boost.
Another thing that you might want to
consider is daily journaling,
or just affirmations.
Here's how you do that.
You simply write goals as if they've
already happened.
For example, you would want to say
something along the lines of, I am a
consistently working actor in
television.
Now I know that that sounds like you're
just
in Denial of where you are now,
but it's that kind of positivity?
And the theory is that when you put
that energy out into the universe,
literally the energy from that comes
back to you.
And so repeating affirmations that
anchor you in possibility
rather than doubt,
is the key.
That's what I call a success map, or
you could say, a career road map.
So instead of vague
comments to yourself, like I want to
make it,
I suggest you chart short and long term
actions.
For example,
classes.
What classes are you planning on
taking?
What classes would you like to take?
What classes do you see yourself taking
in order to feel more confident?
How about representation?
If you have an agent, are they sending
you out?
Is it time to have a meeting with your
agent?
Could you see yourself
thought of by another agency?
How are yourself tapes?
Have you put some concerted effort into
making sure all those technical aspects
are in good shape?
How about networking?
Are you keeping a log of those people
who are in the industry?
That might be really helpful to know,
not only now, but in the future.
See if you can create a visual
or a written success model.
This becomes your guide.
And that is what I call emotional
calibration.
It's also
something to think about.
It it's kind of weird, maybe, but
mindset hygiene is as important as
vocal warm ups.
Again, back to the notion of what we
tell ourselves.
And I know from firsthand experience,
we can beat ourselves up very, very easily.
We can have that
little bit of self doubt about what the
hell we're doing.
Is this what I should be doing?
Is this something that I need to
reconsider?
Am I really feeling like this is
something I can be doing?
And so that mindset hygiene is that you
check yourself out.
You check yourself out and say, am I
producing
positive, emotionally
rewarding energy
into these questions that I have
breathwork,
meditation,
that gratitude resett that I just
talked about,
that is a reset
of the nervous system.
You see, I think success is often about
how well you handle the waiting,
how well you handled the nose and how
well you deal with the unknowns.
So if you can take inspired action,
I think that manifestation works worth
action.
Not instead of it,
they go hand in hand.
So for example, send that email, do
that, follow up,
show up, prepared,
track your momentum.
Now, I know that you might be a little
bit sceptical, and I understand,
because I am a little bit skeptical,
too.
But I love learning about this.
But for those of you who are skeptical
who think, ok, here's this kind of woo
woo, putting energy on to the universe,
blab labla,
ok, not that you would say blab labla,
but you know what I'm zik.
Here are some alternative energies for
that actor.
Who's a little bit skeptical.
And you can include me in a little bit
of this.
See, not everyone connects with the
kind of, the woo of manifestation.
I can't think of a better word other
than woo.
Woo, sort of it's a little out there.
It's a little too far away.
So here are some alternatives to think
about, if you want to put it in
scientific terms, I think behavioral
psychology
gives us a really good lens to look
through.
And we're going to cover more about the
behavioral
psychology lens
in just a moment.
Welcome back.
We're talking about the manifestation.
We're talking about putting energy out
into the universe.
So that we can solidify
a trajectory
for our acting careers.
And for those of you who might be a
little bit skeptical, and I certainly understand,
let's talk about cognitive behavioral
therapy, cbt.
Those techniques
like
thought tracking,
for example, that's a method by which
you feel and track each emotional
place you are in with any given
circumstance that can replace
affirmations with just simple self
awareness
by reframing negative thoughts.
It isn't a mystical thing to do.
It's just neuroscience
constant, reaffirming
your purpose,
reaffirming
the work you put into whatever the
project is, reaffirming that you belong.
It's not about putting that energy out
there necessarily,
although I think it does.
It's really about changing your brain
chemistry so that you're not looking
through a lens of negativity, of self
doubt.
Also putting it in scientific terms,
there are just simple career metrics
that you can Embrace.
Career metrics and tracking, for
example.
So instead of visualizing success,
define what success means for you, and
then track real data.
For example,
are you tracking how many auditions
you're doing a month?
Do you have a spreadsheet?
For example, are you keeping track of
the agent submissions you've been given.
How are your call back rates?
How are your call back rates?
When you're doing a self tape,
you see, if you put a log or a system
in place for every audition,
for every meeting, for every follow up,
I promise you you're going to start to
see your growth,
and it's going to help reinforce
all of that positivity
that can help you feel like there is
four word momentum.
But you know what?
It's not just a feeling,
it's a fact.
You will definitely
get more forward momentum
by tracking your progress.
Have you thought about career coaching
or mentorship?
It's really interesting to me that if
you seek out professionals, or even if
you connect with another actor in a like
minded
state, if you're with a friend who is
going through similar experiences,
emotionally, or mentally or otherwise,
and if you use evidence based frameworks
for setting up realistic,
actor specific goals,
you are really reinforcing
exactly what we're talking about, that
forward movement and that trackable,
more positive approach
to the business
and to your creativity.
So I think there's something to be said
about integrating it all.
Your personalized
success model that's what I think you
can talk about.
So you need to combine what works
for you.
Maybe it's, for example, just
visualizing success.
And then maybe you do some spreadsheet
tracking.
See, you can incorporate both.
Or how about journaling
and a coach?
You can do both.
What matters is ownership.
Choose your tools and commit to
consistency.
The most successful actors aren't the
most woo or the most strategic.
That's not at all the case.
They are simply most aligned
with their process.
So here's some closing thoughts
and maybe a little bit of a call to
action, whether you're scripting your
future in your mind or scripting your
goals into a spreadsheet.
The point is, you are not powerless in
this career.
Creating your success model is about
clarity.
It is about direction and belief
in your talent, your path
and your possibility.
So what will your success model look
like?
Think about it
and let me know.
I'd love to hear about it.
And hey, if you're enjoying this show,
if you've enjoyed this podcast, would
you leave a rating or share it with an
actor friend who could use a little clarity?
Until next time.
Please keep showing up, keep preparing
smarter and keep performing
better.
