About

Joy Huerta (born June 20, 1986, in Mexico City) is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and activist, best known as one half of the Grammy-winning pop duo Jesse & Joy, which she formed with her brother Jesse in 2005. As the group's lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Joy has helped shape their signature blend of Latin pop, folk, and rock. Together, they have released multiple albums, including Esta Es Mi Vida (2006), ¿Con Quién Se Queda el Perro? (2011), and Un Besito Más (2015), the latter earning them a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album and topping Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.

Joy's voice has been compared to artists like Norah Jones and Alanis Morissette, and her songwriting often explores themes of love, identity, and resilience. The duo has won six Latin Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Song and Record of the Year for “¡Corre!”, and Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album for Un Besito Más.

In 2025, Joy made her Broadway debut as co-composer and lyricist for Real Women Have Curves: The Musical, an adaptation of Josefina López’s play and film. Her work on the show earned her a Tony nomination for Best Original Score, making her the first Mexican woman nominated in that category. The musical blends regional Mexican sounds with pop influences, reflecting Joy's bicultural heritage and commitment to authentic storytelling.

Beyond music, Joy is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, animal welfare, and immigrant justice. She has partnered with organizations supporting these causes and has performed at events aimed at mobilizing Latino voters. In 2019, she publicly came out as a lesbian, introducing her wife, artist Diana Atri.
