Joanna Carpenter is a multifaceted performer and arts advocate with experience spanning Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre, and television. She served as a swing in the 2023–2024 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd, covering multiple ensemble roles. Off-Broadway, she appeared in A Sherlock Carol and was an understudy in The Connector at MCC Theater.
Her regional credits include Merrily We Roll Along at Astoria Performing Arts Center, The Fantasticks, Bat Boy: The Musical, and Romeo & Juliet. She also performed in Sunfish, which won the Top Jury Honor at the Daegu International Musical Festival in South Korea.
Beyond the stage, Carpenter is a community organizer and activist. She co-founded SwingNation, a mentorship initiative supporting Broadway swings, in collaboration with The Harriet Tubman Effect. Additionally, she is a hospitality consultant and educator, advocating for equity and inclusion within the service industry.
